Month to Month Beekeeping Apprenticeship — Learn Organic Beekeeping Hands-On | Lazy Acres Apiary
Already curious about beekeeping but not quite ready to commit to your own hive? The Lazy Acres Beekeeping Apprenticeship is a flexible, month-to-month program that gets you out to the apiary regularly, working alongside Michael during real hive care — no formal curriculum, no pressure, just genuine hands-on exposure to how an organic apiary operates day to day. You won’t have your own hive to work on in this program unless you have first completed the mentorship.
For $50 a month you'll join Michael weekly or biweekly (your preference) for routine apiary care across our established hives. You'll see what seasonal beekeeping actually looks like in practice — inspections, splits, swarm management, mite monitoring, honey supers going on and coming off — all through the lens of chemical-free, treatment-free organic management. It's the kind of education you can't get from a book or a YouTube video. You learn by being there, asking questions, and watching how an experienced beekeeper reads and responds to a living colony.
This is a learn-on-the-fly program for people who want real exposure before making a bigger commitment. We recommend completing our 3-month Beginner Beekeeping Mentorship before starting the Apprenticeship — the mentorship gives you the foundation that makes everything you'll see here click into place much faster. That said, if you're someone who just wants to be around bees, learn organically, and see how an established apiary runs, this is a great place to start.
What you'll experience:
Routine hive inspections on established, multi-year colonies
Seasonal apiary management — splits, swarm catches, adding and pulling supers
Organic Varroa mite monitoring and management in practice
Queen spotting, brood reading, and colony health assessment
The full rhythm of an organic apiary through the season
Real conversations with an experienced beekeeper about what you're seeing and why
What's included:
Weekly or biweekly visits to the apiary alongside Michael
Access to our full working apiary — not just one starter hive
Ongoing guidance and questions answered in real time
No contracts — month to month, cancel any time
A note on the honey and bees: The Apprenticeship is a fantastic way to learn and a genuine hands-on experience — but the path to keeping 50% of your own honey harvest and eventually taking home a split of your own bees runs through the Mentorship first. Those rewards are tied to having your own hive on the farm, which is part of what makes the Mentorship program unique. If that's where you want to end up, the Mentorship is where to start.
Investment: $50/month — no contracts, cancel any time Recommended prerequisite: Lazy Acres 3-Month Beginner Beekeeping Mentorship Location: Norwich, Ohio · BeesKnowBest.com
